Why don't you simply move your account from BG and teach them a lesson. You will also probably save yourself some money.

Use 'Uswitch' to get alternative quotes.

BG have displayed a total contempt for their customers for years which is why they have lost so many of us.

Me thinks they need to reprogram it then, as I fail to see how when I am already paying more than enough to cover my usage it thinks it should be upping it.

Saying that for the past 3 months they have not raised it. So maybe the computer has said "yes" for once..

Reprogramming it wouldn't do it too much harm, I agree with you on that score.

Because Click Energy 2 based on my usage and region is the cheapest electricity I can get.

  • I have just got off the phone to BG. After being told my DD would be reviewed last year it is still the same and my credit is going up. I asked for my money back and they told me that the only way they could give it me back was by cancelling my DD. I also phoned them last week to remove the price protection (which was on until 2009). This had not been done and the only way to remove it and not incur a penalty was to sign up to a price protection 'til 2008. I was told I could come out of this if the prices came down again! What is the point why not just do it now?

Why not cancel the DD and set it back up again once you have received the credit? :)

Also if you are coming off price protection 2009, you don't have to go on price guardian 2008 although unless you are switching to click energy or to a different supplier you would be daft not to.

This is exactly what I was going to say, having done this mysself a few times !!

Just cancel the dd , sit back, wait for the letter saying here is your bill.. it will have your reading up to date of cancellation ( or an estimate), then will show the credit amount, and a credit amount c/f, then you will receive a bill 3 months later, against which you will have your credit balance.. and on and on.. result..... you pay no electricity/gas at all for x months, then once the carried forward credit has run out, juts set up the dd again. Only downfall is you will lose your discount re direct debits, but given the stress of the tons of phonecalls you have to do to sort it out ( and n0o dount with BG be on hold for half an hour each time!) , I think its still well worth it!

I once got a refund of £378.00 that I was in credit for.
Its shocking that they are allowed to do this and use your money to gain interest in their accounts.

But its not shocking if you were £300 in debit to them and you were keeping the money in YOUR bank to earn interest?

    Swings and roundabouts....

Exactly, and the Regulator has stated that the Utility companies are owed far more than the owe.

You would expect that to happen with rising tariffs(and no adjustment of the DD) but it might be different now prices are dropping.

I'm sure many of you do this so my apologies if I'm stating the obvious!

What I generally do Is submit meter reading's every quarter so that I am billed exactly for what I use. In return I receive a nice lump of nectar points and accurate bills.

When prices have gone up I just add that percentage increase to my monthly D/D and this seems to run like clock work. Although with the price decrease's I will leave the D/D amount's the same, as you never know what next winter will be like.

    Taff ;)
