Credit Card with little income

Hi

I want to get a credit card for the added security it provides with purchases. Im currently a full time student with my only income being student loans/ grants and some help from my family.

I applied for a 'student credit card' last year with halifax after they asked me about a dozen times and had the advert pop up every time I logged into online banking. The refused me :/
However, the next week I went into the branch and they increased my 0% overdraft from £1500 to £2000. (Why would they give me this and not a £300 limit credit card!?!?!)

How can I get a credit card? The APR doesnt really matter as I will pay it off every month. My only credit history really is the overdraft and the fact ive been on the electoral roll at the same address for around 3 or 4 years.

Thanks :)

Sometimes the checks they do on student overdrafts are based on how you've used your account, not actual credit checks. I doubt you will get a CC with no regular income.

Well why don't you ask them who they used rather than asking the people who actually know a bit about how CC applications work?

They may of lied about their income to get one. I had a friend who got into a LOT of trouble because she lied about her wage on applications and ran up massive debts. Plus it's fraud.

Vanquis seem to generally accept students where there is no significant history of bad debt, but only consider it if you definitely are paying off in full every month - you could have a 59.9% APR on the card if you don't pay off in full.

I can assure you they didnt lie about their income.
They just applied for a student credit card at Halifax and Lloyds TSB and were accepted.

Thanks for the advice, I think I will try Vanquis. As I will be paying it off every month it doesn't really matter about the APR.
