Returns from a party plan company

I recently bought some items from a friends underwear party.
I received them and 2 items didn't fit and 2 haven't arrived yet.
Before I ordered them at the party I asked the sales rep what the returns policy was. She basically didn't have a clue.
On their delivery note it says "exchange or credit"
So I emailed them and politely asked them for a full refund stating that although I asked what the returns policy was (I always check before buying) it wasn't made very clear.
However, as far as I was aware.... Because it is order and I did not get to either see these items or try any of them on before ordering and purchasing I am legally entitled to a full refund?
Is this correct?
Because the reply from the company said that because they are "party plan" the legality of it is different..... But it's an order. They also have an internet website.
Any help would be greatly appreciated so I don't sound like a totally idiot when I reply
Thanks!!
