This is a mild rant about a seller. That's all.

Just a rant, for which I apologise in advance.
I bought an item at the weeke
nd and just received an email from my seller:

"Hi, just to keep you updated i have driven into town for you and your items are in the post recorded delivery, please note with postage bubble wrap etc, i make nothing on P & P and i have driven into town for you at my expense it always costs me to P & P, i hope you have been happy with the service, i strive to treat people as i would wish to be treated, please let me know when it arrives and i will leave feedback, best wishes and thanks again *****"

I don't CARE about how you get to the post office. I don't CARE how it's packaged, so long as it gets to me ok. They've really wound me up with that email. And it's under £20 so why send it recorded?

Thanks for listening.

They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

  • Perhaps the seller is fearful of low star ratings and just trying to be nice, buyers giving lows for a few pence over stamp price have created this environment, don't blame your seller.

Yes, but reasonable sellers acknowledge this and deal with it in a way that doesn't look defensive.

There is an environment out there - but it is a foolish seller who doesn't take note of it and act accordingly. Market forces have forced sellers to do a lot of things, sometimes not so healthy, but then again, there would be pressures anyway to keep costs down and prices competitive - it is not particularly the buyers' fault.

Sounds to me as if the seller knows they are overcharging but are trying to justify the overcharge - e.g. saying they have to drive to the post office - when they could do things a bit more efficiently and weigh up whether it is economical for them to sell at all.

The other side maybe that they pack well and don't want to be compared to those just stuffing things in a jiffy bag.

I agree with your points but some sellers just don't know what to do and are trying their best. When you buy on eBay, in this case it sounds like a private seller selling their bits and bobs, you are going to get varying experiences.

Being made to feel sorry or guilty by a seller is a particular dislike of mine. I bought something because I wanted it and as long as they wrap it and send it that's all I care about.

I also hate the sellers who explain away high p and p charges by putting something on their auction about how their local PO is 2 miles away and they have to catch a bus to get there and can only go on Tuesdays and the costs are high as they have to go another stop past the shops and it isn't their fault and they're not a business so don't leave low stars ..blah..blah..blah
