Double booked hotel on credit card

I recently purchased a hotel for 5nights through agoda using my credit card and for some reason I've booked the same hotel twice and been charged both times. The hotels policy is non refundable how could I have possibly booked it twice. Can I phone the credit card company for help.

Whether the card company can help depends on whether you booked it twice or not. If a duplicate transaction, then they may be able to help. But you should raise it with the hotel first.

I've raised the issue with agoda and they are going to ask the hotel is it possible for a refund. I'm just waiting to here back off them. If the cant offer a refund then I'll phone the credit card company to see what has happend .

If you only authorised one transaction then it's unauthorised and you should "dispute" it.
It's quite important to use the right words with call centers I've found.
I rang up once and said I wanted to do a chargeback. They all claimed they have no idea what I was talking about.
Once I said "dispute" they knew exactly what I meant.

Did you get emails in acknwledgement, if so make sure you keep them.
If you didn't book it twice then the second payment is unauthorised.
Most credit card companies will put such debits on "hold" for you i.e. you don't have to pay and you don't get charged interest.

If it is your error, as you seem to be saying it is, however then the credit card company cannot legitimately do anything for you as they can only assist with fraud, merchant errors or cases where the merchant is legally liable.
