in Cutting tax
As my late husband's executor I have been dealing with the tax office regarding repayment of tax paid. I have filled in the necessary forms regarding income and savings interest and have been informed that there will be a repayment and that if I provided bank details on the form then it will be paid direct into the account.
Does anyone know how long this takes please?

Hi,
I had a letter like yours dated 26 April, another dated 27 April saying a bank transfer is being made but as of just now it hasnt arrived in my account.0 -
Thanks for that Nigem. I didn't get a second letter, the only one I've had just said if you've requested a bank transfer (by providing bank details) then it would be done. I suppose I'd better give them a month, every other thing to do with them has taken about a month to deal with.0

If it's from a PAYE source then they tend to send a cheque to your Bank. As far as I'm aware they still haven't linked the BACS repayment system to PAYE refunds.
From memory R27 to refund in bank account = 1 month. From HMRC refund calculation to money in account = 3 days.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Thanks Mike.
I didn't actually do an R27, I opted for Self Assessment SA100 and on that form they just required the account number and sort code, account holder and name of bank.
I have just re-read their letter to me and realised there is no mention of repaying to the bank on there, it's just on the SA100 that I completed.
The letter does say the calculation is based on the Tax Return but that it has not yet been checked and therefore any repayment is not confirmation the Return is complete and correct. They reserve the right to have any over-payment returned to them if the Tax Return is found to be incorrect. What a fiasco, why on earth do they not check the forms first and then make any repayment due   .
I shan't be holding my breath for a speedy return of overpaid tax then!0 -

Apologies I should have remembered that from your previous posts. I remembered expressing surprise you'd opted for the SA route.
SA is linked in to BACS and will be paid direct to your nominated account. But I wouldn't like to hazard a guess on timeframe .... not sure how much validation they do on 'personal representative' Returns. They're pretty good on the sensitivity around R27 claims, and are quick and generally not too quizzical .... but I'm not sure if the fairly unusual SA equivalent gets the same treatment. Not out of any lesser regard - but simply the fact it doesn't draw itself to their attention so well.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

The system wont let them Mikeyorks , which is quite illogical but this is HMRC we are talking about !0 -

No worries Mike, I wouldn't have expected you to remember the previous posts as I didn't link to them.
I'm not desperate for the money, it's just if it had been paid in within the next week I would have enough in the current account for DDs to save me transferring money to cover them. The majority of them come in the middle of the month but the pensions trickle in over the 4 or 5 weeks of the month so I need to top up with savings then take it out again, bit of a faff but I've got it covered.

Is this into a bank account designated "The personal representative of xyz deceased" or similar wording?
My experience with an R27 was that it actually took about 6 weeks directly into the executor's account, BUT I got no notification that it had been processed and the refund was different from my back of the envelope calculations, so I could not recognise that 123/45 on the statement must be a tax refunded.0 -

No John, this is my current account, the same account that was our joint account. They are referring to me as his personal representative but the form just asked for details of whatever bank account the refund was to be paid into.0 -

HMRC managed to send the cheque off to the bank where we hold the executor's account, but because one of the figures was unclear, the bank sent it back, and HMRC wrote to my late father to advise him of this.
My mother passed that letter on to my co-executor, who then supplied the information more legibly, and after about 6 weeks I phoned to find out where the money was.
Because I hadn't made the original claim, I was told (once my inside leg measurement had been verified) that HMRC could not give me any information, but could write to my co-executor to tell him what was happening.
Cue a letter to my co-executor to say that I have phoned, the person I have spoken to does not know why payment has not yet been made, but they have raised a query on the failure to pay now they have the right information, and they have asked someone else to explain this.
In other words, saying nothing at all useful!Signature removed for peace of mind0
