Treehouse staring into our living room
Comments

Hi just an update
he's built a massive octagonal summer house next to it (at ground level) as well from scratch over the weekend so I have to admire his carpentry skills.
Having said that, we have decided the treehouse is really intrusive, and that from our research it does need planning permission due to the height and closeness to boundary, so we are going to report to planning dept for them to deal with.
It's plain creeping me out. Hard to explain what it looks like exactly but another neighbour asked me what I thought of the 'sniper bunker' in the tree. That's it exactly! Another neighbour also told me that they don't actually have any children, and that they've seen adult men up there partying with a few beers, and that I don't want staring in my window. So now I don't feel so guilty about reporting it as I'm not spoiling some kiddies playtime.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
Have you talked to them about it?
Its always better to try and sort things out amicably with a neighbor first.0 -
If you do speak to planning, they will keep your details private (although it probably won't be too hard for the neighbours to work it out).
We have recently spoken to planning over the siting of a neighbours aerial (I say 'aerial', I really mean 'antenna designed to summon the mother-ship' it's a good 50ft high). I rang up (initially just to informally enquire about it), they sent me a short form to fill in, and a couple of weeks later I had a reply stating that they had been out to see it and it was against planning control so the neighbours have been given 28 days to remove (or apply for planning permission).
I know other people wouldn't have done anything, but we felt it was intrusive (it's maybe 25-30ft away from our back door). We also don't really have anything to do with the neighbours in question as they are on a different road (they back onto us). If we get a brick through a window in retaliation, I'll let you know
Planning should be able to give you an idea over the phone as to whether it might require planning permission, so phoning up won't hurt.
Best of luck0 -
Perhaps if he's that good/keen at carpentry, he's got or is starting up his own business and wanted to get a few items built to put in his portfolio? Might explain the building of a treehouse without any kids - it might be that other than the odd few beers to enjoy the novelty of the new treehouse, it will barely get used, and perhaps even taken down once it's served its purpose?0

It's not a tree house, it's an observation post and I can't believe how many posters think it's ok. Hope you get it sorted.0

And you know the OP's neighbours so know this for certain, I assume?0 -
Could you post a photo of it? It's hard to imagine how unreasonable it is.0

A "tree house" with a 4' wide window that overlooks only your property. Blokes sat there drinking beer. You call it what you want.
I haven't seen it so I'm not going to call it anything at all.
Unlike some!!!0 -
He built a treehouse, and he doesn't actually have any kids?? Weirdo. Unless he's got family I suppose. But seriously, why build a treehouse for grown-ups? Does he think he's Ray Mears or something?
