This may sound stupid but how much are you wanting/willing to spend? It's just that with a rough idea it's easier to factor out what you can buy and thus get a better approximation of what you should be spending.

Also, how old are your kids?

If you look in Old Style moneysaving there are heaps of tips on how to live frugally....I recently found a thread called feeding a family of four for £1.62 (I think that was the cost) and people have posted their meal ideas for that price.....try the pizza its fab and the corned beef hotpot!!!

The basis of eating well on a budget is to remember that everything that is done to food by a processor costs you money. It is called adding value - but that is not value for us as consumers, it is to enable a higher price to be chqrged. Cooking as much as you can from scratch is the most economical, but requires a certain amount of dedication in the organisation department cooking some things in bulk so that you don't end up feeling tired when getting in from work and reaching for the telephone.

Don't forget that home made stuffed pancakes, home made flans and savoury pies - baked potatoes done in microwave are all dead cheap.

I think there are about 5 or 6 different threads on meals for £1, cheap meals, "rubber chicken" etc.
