Hi all
We are looking at getting a new car and after looking around a lot and also asking on here we have narrowed it down to one of the following.
Mazda 6 2.2d sport (sl?)
Vw passat 2.0d sport
Audi a6 2.0d se or sport
All will be estate cars as thats what we are after.
Budget is 12500 max so I know the Audi will be slightly older and hve a few more miles.
Do any of you on here have any experience of the above cars at all??
Ive heard of issues concerning the dpf filter on the mazda on the 2.0 engine, is it the same for the 2.2??
any issues to look out for with the vw or audi??
I know the Audi is likely to be older than the others but what are the like reliability wise?? would a higher mileage version put you off? ( 60 - 70 k more than likely)
Finally, if it was your money where would you put it !!
cheers
steve

Have you read the reviews on the Honest John website, very informative (and scary about DMF's and DPF's and EGR valves etc).
Do you really need (or want) a diesel? I read a recent article on Honest John or the Telegraph in which he recommended the new Avensis 1.8 petrol as being very efficient and may in the long run be more cost effective as there should be no hefty bills for DMF's, DPF's etc

I have the Passat 2.0 TDi (140 bhp not sport) and it is fantastic, mine has 83,000 on now and drives like new. It does need the timing belts changing at 80,000 (its a 58 reg) so if you are looking around that milage them factor that in, mine cost £250 from my local garage inc water pump belts as well.Totally Debt Free & Mortgage Free Semi retired and happy0

That budget should get you a decent example of any of them. As drivers cars they are all remarkably similar. Only buy the Audi if you want to pay extra for the badge and the nicer interior. Passat in particular has rather a dull cabin, but it is mechanically the same car.
As long as you do 12000 miles plus a year, a deisel is worth it. Otherwise buy a petrol. The purchase cost saving like for like will outweigh the higher fuel bills.0
