My 10 month old HP laptop has developed a fault with the touch sensor.
HP are going to collect it to take a look at it
My question is.....how do i copy all my data onto an external hard drive and then revert it back to how it was shipped
Its running Windows 7

You don't have to do a System Restore or a Factory Restore before sending it back, as long as you've backed up your data.
The manual and HP online support pages will give full info on how to do a Factory Restore if you feel the need, but it means that you'll have to then reinstall all your after-market programs. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Only if the OP has such data on their laptop.
That must have been of the very few cases where a visit to PCW does not result in your data being wiped...No free lunch, and no free laptop0
