After years of growing up on a rough estate in a city and walking past nicked, smashed and vandalised cars on an hourly basis, I managed to work my backside off and move into a nice town around 10 miles away population (7000ish) which had much much less car crimes per person last year in fact its pretty much non existant and i dont think i've ever seen so much as a ding occur around here. its a bit sad but for a 'laugh' the other day I decided to see how much it would cost to insure my car at my old address to my suprise it was £150 cheaper on my old estate, every detail apart from address was the same. I can only at a guess think that either they know the average income per household is much higher on average around here (not mine though!) or everyone in my postcode bracket is on the claim. Please can someone shed some light on this? Thankyou

OP, I feel your pain.
I think the difference is probably down to the rate of claims for each area. Maybe those on the estate were less likely to insure their vehicles (and therefore claim) than your new neighbours?Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Crime has a small effect on Insurance premiums, the main causes are accidents.
It's not unusual for more affluent areas to have higher accident rates and their residents generally have much higher incomes / value of cars so the costs to the insurers in write offs and / or loss of income can be much higher.
In addition theft of cars due to breaking in to get the keys are much higher in affluent areas as they are targeted by the thieves due to the higher standard of cars.
It all comes down to how much the Insurers pay out in claims0 -

Plus if you get a dent from some yob having a friday night laugh, well it just matches the one on the other side -v- the same happening in the posh area where you have to get your lease/company car fixed with even the smallest dent and Mercedes, Audi etc charge a considerably higher amount for a new wing than either the Dent Doctor or the local scrappy.0

How do you think all your neighbours paid for those big posh houses?
Hard work and sweat?
Why do that when you can scrape the garden gate and claim for that + thousands for personal injury.
How many people service their own cars or damage them on an almost weekly basis?
My in laws are surrounded by old retired people with new or mobility cars. They come out start them up in the snowy weather and leave them running to warm and clear the snow.
Not one of them scraped any snow off. Also most of them are damaged in some way or other.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
