EPS Failure & particulate filter- opinions please!

I have a second hand Audi a3. It's a 2009 model not used much - about 30-40k. I bought it about a month ago. It was working fine. about a week or two ago one of the brake lights stopped working and the sign came up to say so. I haven't had time to get it fixed. Today I tried to go out in the car and it's not turning on. Everything flashes and goes whacko and then EPS failure comes up. It also said particulate filter a couple of times too.
I know there are lots of posts about this but don't tell me to get vagcom please! I won't fix it so it's pointless. i'd spend money only to just break it more really.
I did find a website (which i can't post because i'm a new user) but it says that instead of replacing the ABS will just make it fail again and that instead this company:
"bypass the original Brake Pressure Sensor Switch and fit our very own custom manufactured External Brake Pressure Sender Switch and calibrate it so that the manufacturing defect is no longer existing. This is the only way to completely remove all risks of the unit failing again and this is why we are confident enough to offer a full LIFETIME warranty on the unit. All other cars without the MK60 ATE ABS Control Module have the Brake Pressure Sensor fitted externally to the ABS Pump and guess what, they never fail!"
anyone know anything about it or if what they are saying is actually true? i found it on the sinspeed website.
and what about the particulate filter? what do i do about that!?

Brake lights stopped working and you dont have time to get them fixed?
The rear brake lights? or the dash warning lights?

There is a known fault on the Golf Mk V based cars (which your A3 is) where there's a faulty brake switch relay or fuse (can't remember it off the top of my head) which causes the car to behave erratically showing incorrect errors on the dash. It sounds like there is something wrong electronically with your car which is generating spurious errors so it could well be related to the brake light not working (as strange as that may be). I can't remember the exact details of it but when I was getting an odd error on my dashboard I found frequent references to the brake light issue.
The brake pressure sensor issue you've mentioned is probably irrevelant in your case, the problem on many of the Golf Mk V based cars (A3 Mk II, Octavia Mk II, Leon Mk III etc.) is a faulty sensor which causes the Teves MK 60 ESP traction control system to stop working. The car reads it as a G20 ABS sensor failure (again off the top of my head) even though the ABS is fine, you can tell when it happens as the traction light will stay lit but pressing the ESP button will not re-enable it. Originally the entire kit needed to be replaced at a high cost (unless you managed to get goodwill from the dealers) but there's now a repair kit out which fixes just the faulty sensor. It doesn't sound like this is the problem your car is suffering from.
To be honest I don't see the point in asking for advice and then saying not to advice VCDS, if you're not able to take that step then the advice you can get on the forum is limited and you may as well get it to garage.
