what sort of survey does this sound like?

just had a surveyor round for the house that we are selling.

he was here 30 mins.

he stuck his head in the loft, looked in the garage, checked the walls in the front room with a black box thing!

then he asked me questions on structual things etc.

what sort of survey does it sound like/

the estate agent yesterday said that it would be a mortgage valuation and that he wouldn't need to go in the loft.

That sounds like a basic mortgage evaluation.

The guy doing my mortgage evaluation stuck his head in the loft - I think they do that as a matter of course. The black box he stuck on the walls was probably a laser tape measure...!

Definitely a mortgage valuation. If it was supposed to be something more then I'd be asking for my money back!!

I agree, it's a basic Mortgage valuation which is intended only for the mortgage company to be satisfied that the amount it's lending you (may not be the full price you are buying unless it's a 100% mortgage) is safe.

I think the black box will be a damp tester.
