I want to refurbish my oven!

We're redoing our kitchen in the next month (bottom cabinets ruined by damp and top cabinets doors only) and our oven could do with a spruce!
I'm loathed to get a new one (not new, new!) as the only thing that I don't like about our current oven is that the 'border' around the hob bit and at the front, is rusty (it's free-standing electric).
Does anyone know the best way to remove the rust and repaint it? It's not the actual hob bit, it's the metal frame.

Does the metal bit get hot?
If so, I'd suggest de-rusting it with 'Jenolite' (or other rust remover) and re-painting with fire proof exhaust/manifold/brake caliper paint.
All should be available from your local car spares shop.0
