OP, nogginhead's experience (or rather his wife's) is not typical. From his other posts from his assorted AEs, there are good reasons why they have had problems claiming. So don't be put off or confused by his post.0

I don't know about nogginhead, his AE, his wife or their experiences of claiming benefits but it's best to complete the application form rather than be put off by other people's experiences and tales of doom.
I doubt that anybody's circumstances are exactly the same so give it a go.0 -
Claim the AA, and if awarded and they live alone get them to check the Pension Credit entitlement. If no one is paid Carers Allowance for them they could get an extra premium with Pension Credit which could mean an entitlement.0
