I want to soundproof a room and use it as a music studio. What's the cheapest solution please?
Thanks in advance.

builders merchants sell 100mm thick sheets of polystyrene for insulating under concrete etc.
£20 'ish per 8x4 sheet, and then use panel adhesive to stick to the walls and ceiling, This is then a fire risk, so cover with pva glue, and paint it with cheap emulsion. The floor is an issue, other than lifting the floorboards and insulation with standard heat insulation rolls.

it does actually work well. Years a go I did this in a barn attached to farmhouse. only on the one wall shared with house but it did work. however not so pretty in a usable room but ok for a barn.Steve_Andrea wrote: »My uncle converted one of his bedrooms into a studio and used egg cartons.... not sure how successful it was though....

If its an attached residential property then its all but impossible.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Using egg boxes is a good alternative to conical foam sheets but remember to do the ceiling, the back of the door too and have a sheet covered with egg boxes to set over the window.
What you're doing is deflecting the sound and breaking the wave pattern.0
