Help needed with ipad2

Hi all, I'm having a problem with my ipad2, it has stopped making sounds in apps but music plays and we have sounds on Netflix etc. have done a bit of research and it says to go to settings about side switch. I've done this and can either get sounds on but screen locked in position or screen rotation but no sounds. Confused......
