Acer Orbicam

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me with the latest of my pc problems :sad:

My Acer laptop has an acer orbicam built in. The problem is, it only works for 2 or 3 days and then I get a message to say that it cannot open the webcam as the program is not working. I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling from the drivers disc but that doesnt work. The only thing that works is restoring the laptop to factory settings but obviously I dont want to keep having to do that as it only works for 2 or 3 days afterwards anyway. Does anyone have any ideas about what I could try next?

The laptop is just under 28 days old so I should be able to bring it back and get it swapped, but the problem is I would want to wipe the drive before I did that and what happens when I wipe the drive? The camera starts working again, so i'm not sure if the shop will even take it back since it will appear to be working fine :mad: Before I bring it back, it would be helpful to find out if others have had any problems with the webcam? I dont want to get a new one only to find it happening again!

Anyway, all suggestions welcome, thankyou in advance!

I assume you have an acer 5685?? There are problems with the orbi.. cam in windows Vista. I assume you are running XP so you should be up and running. I would say have a go at removing (in dev manager) the camera and then reinstalling it and do it all in "safe mode".

There are new drivers "I think" available from the acer website so that may fix your problem ... no idea what the link is so trawl through the hotukdeals.co.uk website forum and look for the thread on the acer aspire 5685. The link for the lastest XP drivers was mentioned somewhere in that thread.

Other than thank I dunno ... do you run Windows Live Messenger??? could it be a clash with that?

This contains the driver/Bios files etc for the 568x series (x=0,1,2,3,4,5 etc).

Maybe worth a BIOS upgrade?

People seem to get the Logitech Driver working with this camera (there is a logitech driver in the link provided above). Also people have also used something called Logitech ImageStudio (I think) with mixed success. Install driver 1st then ImageStudio do a google search for some forums on this issue.

i know this sounds a bit dumb but try this because it worked with me my acer orbi cam stopped working move your pictures folder into something like the documents folder and in its place create a new folder and call it pictures then try running acer orbi cam
