Car guarantee through garage

hi i recently bought a volkswagen golf for 5000.00 with a 2000 deposit and rest on finance.when buying car they told me it will have a full Rac inspection (which was done) and everything fixed on this, as far as i am concerned it was done, aswell as new mot and full service.

car also came with platinum car guarantee cover from autoroute.

whilst going through process of buying car the salesman noticed the central locking wasn't working correctly and i raised this and he said he would get this fixed before i come and pick it up. (non remote central locking btw)

day of pick up central locking was working and all was fine.

week later i noticed that the central locking wasnt working and wasnt locking all days, so i had to manually press lock door button inside car and then close driver door seperate, which meant deadlocks werent in place but car was locked.

i notified the garage about this and also about the window regulator wasnt working correctly either and they booked it in and looked over it and then ordered parts in.

week later booked in again to get fitted and window working fine, they changed the lock on my drivers door so i now had a different key to locks on boot and ignition, they said it should be working now and that i should give it a week anymore problem and ring us back up.

week later it stopped working again and the car is now a month into the 3 month warranty, i told the garage about this (the garage is seperate to the place i bought the car from but they are doing repairs as they are in same place) and they said they would order part in and contact me once its in.

a week later no phone call and i phone and say whats happening etc because it needs fixing, they said they had a golf in with same problem and they used it on this by accident and said give it another week.

another week later ive phoned about 10 times now and they say the man whos doing my car either isnt in or not around, when i do get round to speaking to him he always takes my number and said he'll phone me back in 10 minutes, basically im getting fobbed off.

now going through my guarantee it says under the presale inspecition part

'any faults which could reasonably be said to have been present before the providor became liable will remain the selling dealers' liability. As the selling dealer we will rectify such faults under the sales of goods act 1979.'

so obviously i am really annoyed by this as im just getting passed about, if i try and phone autoparc(people i bougtht this from) they pass me to autospark (people doing repairs) and then i get fobbed off.

what grounds do i stand because it is covered under electrical and im just getting messed about? can i return car on sales of goods act? i love the car to bits but if there fobbin me about ill go elsewhere

thanks for help anyways!

Contact your local trading standards office immediately. I think you need to set out in writing your complaint, giving them a time limit to rectify or else reject the car.

I bought a car from www.carselect.co.uk came with a 12 month warranty. I bought it sight unseen and have been very pleased with it. After 10 months we did need new brake pads, which are not covered by the warranty, but we also needed new callipers which were covered by warranty. Local garage rang warranty company who authorised the replacement of the callipers plus labour costs upto £550 - so that saved us a packet.

I agree with the other posters, contact trading standards asap,or ring the garage and tell them you are about to and this may be enough for them to solve your problem.

If the car is on HP call the finance company. Ask them for their assistance in sorting the issue. You will likly find that they will call the garage on your behalf and get it fixed. The reality is that the car belongs to the finance co until you have made the last payment so mention to them that you may be rejecting teh car if it cant be fixed.

The garage will not mess the finance co about as they need that facility, and the finance co will not tolerate lots of calls from disgruntled punters.
