Good business v greed

Couple of nice hotels, few small B&Bs out in the Cheshire countryside, may or may not find themselves with bookings during September. Suddenly Chris Evans announces Carfest North to be held just a few miles away and despite the fact they're pretty much guaranteed now to be fully booked, and therefore bringing in probably more income than they might normally get, they then hike their prices right up.
I know it's business, supply and demand etc but it just seems moneygrabbing.
Sorry, just needed to have a minor rant!

was a little bit of a rant, but i'm sure there are some hotels out there with a good price... you might have to travel a little further out, but there will be a good price! There always is! I use myhotelprices.co.uk - a good place to start comparing prices.
What an amazing coincidence - the website you quote is run by a chap called, wait for it, Ian Fry!0 -

HA HA HA....Busted!
My view on this is that hotels tend to be a product that people use on average less than once a year so really its good business if they know demand is going to go up.
However, if it is your local shop and they have the product that that people need...ie petrol and they stick prices up when supply gets low then this is a bad move and can often lead to revolts by customers after the eventThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

Hardly.
He's a long time member who has no history of spamming who made a helpful, on topic, post to this thread.
The fact that he happens to be involved in the web site is pretty much irrelevant under these circumstances. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

he's only ever done 11 posts and almost all suggest going to his website. How is that not spam? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Guilty as charged on this one, as I make my living maximising profits in this way i.e. managing supply and demand of hotel bedrooms.
I think what "most" hotels do is actually sell their rack rates, whereas in leaner times, they are often discounting from that rate.
Of course, some will whack the rate right up, but then if the hotel room isnt worth it, don't pay it..PS where is it being held?0 -

You do talk some rubbish, don't you?
In the first place, of the 11 posts only 4 mention the site.
In the second, as they are on topic they are not spam - although they may well be advertising.
You really do need to stop making up things about what people post or you will get a reputation as a terrible liar. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

You said he is a long time poster with no history of "spam". He's got 11 posts which hardly makes him an established poster and he repeatedly advertises his own site. What else is spam if its not advertising?
I see you've gone back to personal insults when you are losing an argument. Good timesThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
It's not too big a deal for me...we live about 30 mins drive but we're going both days as a treat for hubby...thought I'd treat us and stop over but will come back home instead. Was just frustrating as I'd looked at some places when I heard it announced, managed to book tickets OK (they sold out within 28 mins) then next day looked at same hotels and it had gone mental0
