Annual Travel Insurance for UK

I'm going on holiday for 6 weeks (45 days) in the UK (Shetland). I normally stick to the UK for holidays and have several small holidays throughout the year so want annual insurance. I am between 18-45 and although I have pre-existing medical conditions there's no point adding a whole load of extra premium as I'm in the UK.

My biggest problem is that all the sites I've looked at have a single item / valuables total of £250-300. I travel with phone, iPad, laptop, camera etc which come to around £2500 with most expensive at £700. Is there any insurance that will cover this at a reasonable price?

Also will I be covered for leaving rucksack with stuff in it in the luggage compartment on a train? How about sending main suitcase (minus electricals) by courier?

Help!

Have you looked at extending your house contents insurance to cover these valuables?

Will you be travelling by train? I wouldn't leave valuables in a rucksack unattended anywhere and I don't understand why you can't just take the suitcase with you?

Have you had a look on this Martin's Best buy insurance ?

Without per-medical insurance you could get annual travel insurance for lower than £50.00
  • Incapuppy - yeah I'm going by train and ferry. As I'm disabled I can't manage a heavy suitcase as well as a walking stick while changing stations etc and on tiny mini buses in Shetland so it's much easier to send by courier. My electrical stuff will be in a rucksack which I'm hoping to be able to stash under my seat as I can't reach the luggage racks overhead.

Adindas - I will have another look but can only seem to find a £300 valuable total / single item limit.

Be aware that a lot of companies won't cover cancellation / curtailment or often travel delay for ferrys within the UK.

Travel Insurers purposely have low limits for baggage as they don't want the claims. Your best bet would be to arrange some contents cover with cover away from home and benefit from having them covered 24/7
  • Thanks for the tip dacouch. I will see what I can do in regards to home insurance. I have absolutely no clue on these things coz I've never bothered with them really :/

I'm not sure I'd trust a courier tbh, if your case goes missing you're knackered!

Have you looked at wheeled luggage? I would hope that there would be staff or a kindly fellow traveller that could help you on/off trains etc.
  • I used sendmybag.com last year and it was ok. Best thing is that it saved me a fortune in baggage fees on the plane. It's not really practical to take it by hand with the transport changes n stuff.
  • Spent hours checking out insurance etc and getting nowhere. Even tried gadget insurance but the gadget has to be less than 12 months old, can't be bought from an auction site (even BIN from eBay shop), some won't insure iPads and it costs about £100 just for 2 gadgets :/
