Looking after hands when cleaning

Options
Hi everyone

My wife has incredibly sore/chapped hands from all the cleaning chores she does around the house. She doesn't like wearing rubber gloves. Is there an alternative solution anyone can recommend? Better gloves, good moisturiser... something else??

Any advice (other than suggesting I do all the chores ;)) welcome.

Thank you.

The only suggestion I had you've already covered.;) Get on with it then. Seriously she should consult the doctor if it gets that bad.

    Cheers

    Hello altyfc

You haven't mentioned barrier cream. I used barrier cream to protect my hands at work and it was very effective.;)

If your wife applies barrier cream before she does any cleaning or washing, it will help her hands. Ask your wife if she dries her hands using a towel after each chore.........or does she let them air dry. Air drying could also be adding to the problem.;)

Finally, before she goes to bed each night she should apply hand cream (I like Atrixo) and hopefully she'll wake up with lovely soft hands.

If these suggestions do not work and your wife's hands don't get better, she should see her GP.

    Regards

I had dermatitis from cleaning products some years ago. Gloves did solve it and now I much prefer cleaning with them, not just because it means no more dermatitis, but also because I can use much hotter water to make the cleaning easier. The quality of gloves varies too. Cheap ones are short lived and make it difficult to grip things, but the marigold ones have been good.

I'd second (or third) the suggestion of gloves. Good gloves make all the difference. Is there a particular reason why she doesn't like wearing gloves? A long time ago, I was an operating theatre nurse and the first thing I learned was that comfortable gloves are close fitting. They're the ones that give the best tactile sensation, too.
