Can I batch cook loads of chicken drumsticks, portion them in freezer bags and then put them in a lunch box in the morning to naturally defrost by lunchtime and then just eat them cold with no reheating?
I do this with sandwiches that have leftover meat inside but am completely unsure when it comes to whole portions of just meat.
Many Thanks,0 -
I am quite picky about BBE dates and I would have absolutely no hesitation in eating them! Parsnip soup sounds delicious.MSE aim: more thanks than posts :j0

I often find veg is like that from polythene bags, even though I've read/been informed that you should keep it in the packaging. From personal experience I've not found that to be true.
I take out of bag and wipe and then keep in the salad drawer of fridge that is lined with a layer of paper kitchen roll. If there's remaining veg left after the next grocery shop and I feel the paper towel is getting a little moist, I clean out the salad tray and replace the kitchen paper. My veg lasts ages, the best was some leeks reduced to 3p as they were going out of date that day. The last of them was used in a soup weeks later. :j
Enjoy your parsnip soup. I have just put a butternut squash one in my slow cooker.

For the love of god stop looking at BB dates on veg, if it's not mushy it's fine regardless of what it says on the stupid label the supermarkets put on it to make you buy more.
When did people stop being able to tell if veg is off without the use of a label?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Yes - no problem.0

Sure someone will be along shortly to explain yes you can or why it's not a good idea.0 -
Yes, have done this before. Just take out early enough to ensure they're thoroughly defrosted by the time you wish to eat them.0

I take no notice of BB dates, I use my eyes and nose to guage whether it is edible.
BB dates are relitavely new they came about in the 1970's when M&S brought them in for cheese.
I really think that BB is the root cause of food waste in this country, especially food canned, dried and in jars.
There were no dates on cans during the war and they kept things like tinned meats and fruits for years, just keep the tins in a dry place. They used to smear the tins with vaseline so they didn't go rusty.
Scientists have even opened tins of food from Scott's camp in the antarctic and they have been found to be perfectly safe to eat over a hundred years later.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Can not help but notice that if the last few posts have been merged then we have to be sure on whether we are talking about chicken or parsnips
What Peachyprice said re. Veg.
To Foxblade, yes you can do that. During the summer I cook a chicken, freeze in portions then defrost from teatime on Saturday, for example to havd as cold chicken salad on Sunday.
If you want to re heat, I do it in gravy with added veg, leeks are nice. Or curry sauce to serve with rice. Or your own curry sauce if you make your own.0 -
