The 'May gap' is bad this year!

These weeks of cold and rain have pretty much stopped anything flowering in my garden!
Once the daffs and tulips were over, it's been very slow progress. Some iris coming out, some geums, late tulips, bluebells and the wallflowers which have been some welcome colour. Everything else hasn't moved for weeks and the iris which are out are sodden. Last year, the iris were glorious in the sunshine
No wonder the Chelsea growers are anxious about getting the plants they want

I still have the odd daff out, and while the early tulips are over the late and miniture alpine ones are out, and lilac is still blooming. There are other odds and ends, but all the roses whose buds have been forming for a few weeks are sulking in the cold wet and not opening at all. Its very frustrating!0 -
Agreed! I have so much stuff to go out, but the weather will trash em if I plant out yet! So annoying! Also, cos the weather has been soaking wet I ent been hoeing the bloomin' weeds, so they are growing away happily. Really hope it dries out and warms up soon!0

Hi
Yes the flowers are in short supply, I only have white bells and blue bells at the moment, cultivated variety. However...
The apple trees are in full blossom, looking wonderfull.
I have about 10 different herbs all in full growth. Lovely and fresh
I have 5 different varieties of lettuce all ready, in the greenhouse.
First sowing of radish are worth picking
I have a lovely row of Pak Choi, first time I have grown these.
Still have some leeks from last season, and beetroot too.
Purple sprouting brocaulli is growing faster than I can pick it.
Freezer is full of cauliflower, still some in the garden.
Rhubarb enough to make a crumble.
I even have some apples in storage from last year.
It is not starting a bad year here, I am in Cheshire0 -
My garden is very blue at the monet with bluebells, forget-me-nots and loads of cornflowers, and also some lovely late minitaure daffs, late beause I didn't plant them til Boxing Day!
I'd recommend cornflowers to fill the gap for next yearYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
Spare a thought for the nurseries who have programmed for plants to be ready for the usual good planting weather now but can't sell the stuff cos no-one is planting yet.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

but can't sell the stuff

Worth remembering that some can be ran off water butts rather than mains.
