I was looking to get the 50% discount on Spotify that NUS currently has. However, it says I require an NUS extra card. I currently have a dated SU card with the NUS logo on. This usually gets me discounts at the cinema and other shops but is this different from an NUS extra?

I was thinking about that offer, but wonder why anyone would pay 4.99 a month (with the NUS offer) just to play music online, you don't own it or are allowed to download it are you, so just curious, why would anyone take this offer, especially at the full price of almost a tenner a month! curious .... benefits to Spotify?0 -

I wouldn't pay for it myself, but I can kind of understand why someone might.0 -

I was originally of the opinion that I would never use it. However, I have just started and given it a go and think its pretty good. I admit I usually would turn to download music and may find I go back to it. However, Spotify is obviously legal, low cost compared to buying it and has a good catalogue of popular and more obscure artists which can't always be found with downloads. This catalogue of music will only expand and get better.
You don't own it, but what are you owning when you purchase off iTunes? With Spotify you are able to sync PC, phone, mp3 player (assuming they are all Spotify compatible). So unless you're going to be burning discs I can't see any other benefit of owning the music would have.
At the moment I think it's pretty good although it lacks a bit in user friendliness.0 -
Your current card is different to an NUS Extra card which you have to pay for. I imagine the registration process for Spotify will ask you for your NUS Extra card number, which you don't have.
Does an NUS extra have to be purchased each academic year? As obviously I would make back the £11 quickly if I were to use this deal0 -

yes it runs from september to august (I think) and you need a new one each year. Obviously buying it later in the year means you have less time for your money but they often run offers for cheaper cards later in the academic year0
