Viruses or not?

I have always used AVG free alongside Malwarebytes and thought eveything was ok. I do scans regularly and it has picked up the odd thing and removed.

I have just done a scan with a program called Anvi Smart Defender and it has picked up 3 issues:

TROffend.kd
PSW.onlinegames
Worm/Palevo.acb

Googling these they are pretty serious so I am panicking now.

AVG and Malwarebytes are picking up nothing so I am really concerned. I do my banking, emails, shopping etc on here and worried these have been on here for a while.

Can anybody help?

Many Thanks

xx

Download and run Sophos Virus Removal Tool It can be used alongside your existing AV software. It will scan your entire system and give the option to remove anything it finds

  • Thanks, I will give this a try and let you know the outcome.

Have you experience of Anvi Smart Defender?

Is malwarebytes and AVG no sufficient anymore?

    Thanks once again.

I've no experience of Anvi. I have used Sophos for many years in a work environment.

Most anti-virus programs have their shortfalls in that they will sometimes fail to find certain threats (or may classify a 'threat' differently to others). I used to install AVG as a norm on client's machines, but it has become over bloated and been known to use a lot of system resources (thereby slowing down the PC), so now tend to use Microsoft Security Essentials

If you bank with Barclays, you can get Kaspersky AV free.

I remember scans finding viruses on my system, in the virus vault.

  • Thanks for your replys.

I have a dormant Barclays Acct so will try and get Kaspersky free by setting up online banking (when I am sure the laptop is clean of course).

I will also carry out Sophos Virus Removal as mentioned and let you know how I get on.

    Thanks Again

That's what happens when you have more than one AV scanner on your system. ;)

I was running an AV scan from a live disc, as something had been missed and computer was acting wierdly..

I can't remember whether it was Bitdefender or Dr web though.

A quick Google around suggests that this particular scanner is quite new and has some reported issues with "false-positives" so I wouldn't be too concerned.

    e.g. see http://www.worldstart.com/anvi-smart-defender/
