Unable to write to DVD

I've connected my digital video camera to my PC using a USB lead and have downloaded my film onto my hard drive using Image Mixer software and the file is now saved as an IMV file.

I am trying to download that file onto a DVD using Sonic version 7. I go to the data disc part of the software and add the name of my file. I put a brand new, blank DVD-R in my D drive and click burn but I keep getting a mesagae....."please insert a blank or re-writable CD/DVD in the D drive"

The make of the drive is: samsung+cdrw/dvd+sm-352f which from my investigation only supports -R media so what is going wrong ???

This my first try at this......HELP ???

Are you sure that -R is supported? Does the + in the name not suggest it is only + disks that are supported.

It sounds as though your drive is simply not recognising the -R disk?

Another possibility - Sonic DLA might be kicking in, and because it's a packet-writing software it might expect +/- RW media, not +/- R

I've just come onto the forum for the very same thing. Yesterday I connected my sony camera (not digital) and tried to download onto dvd and it would only let me use a cd-r which is no use for playback on a dvd player. Can anyone help??

Actually, it looks like I made a mistake in my previous post - according to the Samsung website, this drive is a DVD/CDRW combo drive, i.e. it cannot write DVDs, it can only read them (DVD-R, DVD-RW).

  • So I cannot put my video onto a DVD with the drive that's built into my PC ?

If that's the case how much can I expect to pay for a drive that can write DVD's ?

    Cheers

What sort of drive do you need - internal or external?
  • Not fussed mate. As long as it does the job. Probably external cos knowing me if I take my PC apart to add new bits it will probably never work again !!!

Try http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ - they have some very decent prices. In terms of which one to go for - a matter of personal choice really, but this might prove useful http://www.cdfreaks.com/
