Joining a union when "under threat"

    Normally you would have to wait for 3 months and have paid 3 months subs before you are entitled to receive union help. Some union branches will accept new members if they back pay 3 months' worth of subs.

    Joining a union is down to personal choice and what you hope to get out of being a member. After being a lifelong union member and branch official I wouldnt join a union now because when I needed help my union was nowhere to be seen (as a branch official I had to seek help from my regional office), I eventually took my then employer to an ET myself without union help but utilised the services of a good solicitor instead.
