Halifax.... Grrrr

Could do with some advice please....

I applied for a Halifax Credit Card (wanted to transfer a balance) and got a rejection letter back. The letter was however sent to my old address that I moved out of 2 years ago.

I called Halifax and they confirmed that the application had been processed on my old address, and because of that no credit was attached to that address and therefore I was rejected.

They first tried to blame Experian saying that they must be holding out of date information on me, as it is Experian's system that is telling them I still live at my old address. I called Experian and reactivated my account (at the cost of £15!) but they had my correct details.

I called Halifax back and told them this and they said if its not Experian's fault then I must've filled the application form out incorrectly(!). I said I couldn't be 100% sure but am pretty sure I wouldn't get my own address wrong. I asked the lady on the phone if we could go through the application process again and as we were, when she put in my current address, their system automatically changed it to my old address (which again she said had come from Experian). She ackowledged it wasn't my mistake but said it lies with Experian.

I am getting a little peeved at being passed between Halifax and Experian. My biggest annoyance is the credit search footprint that is now on my history which is making me concerned about applying for any more credit elsewhere.

I guess I wanted to ask if anyone else has had a similar problem (although it sounds pretty unique) and how likely it is that Halifax will remove this search from my record?

Other questions: if they do remove the search would you recommend I reapply with Halifax? or go for another lender such as Virgin or Nationwide?

Appreciate any feedback.
Cheers

You only needed to get your credit report from Experian which costs £2 not £15 - if you have paid extra for a score then you have wasted your money.
I would start a complaint with Halifax which may get them to rethink the decline. It is Halifax' s system which is at fault so they can correct it.

If Halifax work the same as the old place I worked they have multiple companies and multiple systems. Get them to check all their systems to ensure all were updated when you changed address.
