5p off per litre of Fuel when you spend £50+ at Tesco

I doubt there was an error. I'd guess that you bought around 36 litres, which would be a reduction of £1.80.

Adding that to the price you paid would give you £46.94.

So basically the answer to my question is a resounding yes!! I feel such a fool - I see what I did - took the £46 as the litres so was calculating as though I was getting 5p per pound off instead of per litre - doh! Honestly ....... I need to go and lie down I think. Wake me up when Santa's been.

Took 5p off tesco coupon to Esso/tesco express store and was rejected. Apparently the coupon can only be used at Tesco Fuel pumps! On closer look it is mentioned in very small print......rip off if you happen to tank up and then discover.....
