Can I use an old 1st class stamp on a large letter?

I need to post a large letter and have a old stamp from before the changes came in.
Is this still acceptable? I can't find anything useful on the royal mail site.
Thanks

Yes, all decimal stamps are still valid - just make sure you add other stamps to add up to correct value0

If you mean can you use a standard 1st class stamp on a large letter then the answer is no. however like Klondyke says you can use the value of the stamp towards the price needed to increase it to large letter rate.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The question is, how do you know what the value of the stamp is? It just has a 1 on it. Is it what you paid for the stamp, or what it would cost now?0

A normal stamp that just has 1st class on it is worth 32p regardless of when it was bought. A large letter needs a 44p stamp so all you need to do is put an additional 12p worth of stamps on the envelope.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hey
You can use a normal first or second class stamp on a letter less than
240mm in length x 165mm in width x 5mm in diameter AND less than 100g. These cost 32/23p
After this you need large letter stamps - they look the same as normal first and second just twice the size.
Max size 353mm in length x 250mm in width and 25mm in diameter, also under 100g - first class is 44p and second is 37p.
After this it becomes a little more complicated. I suggest next time you are in the Post Office you ask for a size guide and a pricing made easy leaflet. With these at home all you need to do is weigh you're item and its pretty easy to figure out how much it will cost for yourself.
It's really not as complicated as it all seems.... lol!!!!0 -
Yes you can still use it, in fact I am still using Christmas 1st class stamps and will do until they are all used up,HTH0

Any chance you could fold said big letter into a smaller envelope and then use the stamp as normalAre those shopping bags you're carrying really bags of debt???0
-
Yeah- folding up is fine as long as you sellotape it to that size and as along as it fits through the 5mm gap on the letter chart0

Thanks for replies, I understand all the current pricing (have a price guide!) but just didn't know how this related to the old stamps.
I couldn't really fold it up as it was an application form. In the end I realised I could just put it in with my company's post if I paid for it - knowing that will save me hours in post office queues!Proud to be a moneysaver! :cool:0
