Sad sign of the times this.
The OP took a mortgage out nearly 30 years ago which means I am assuming he now is at least in his 50's, which also means that I doubt that he inherited his compensation culture mentality from his parents.

Look at your bank statements to see if it appeared each month.
However, you need to remember that there is nothing wrong with having PPI (especially MPPI - or ASU as it would have been back then). You have to have been mis-sold it. It is highly unlikely you would get a 1984 sale of ASU for mortgages classed as a mis-sale. However, what would be your reason for complaint?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
