Sound Icon Not Responding

Hi, I have an Asus laptop and recently the sound icon has stopped working meaning I can't adjust the volume.
Any ideas?

Explain what you mean by stopped working, i.e. the icon is there but doesn't open the volume controls, or the icon is missing?
Most laptops have volume up/down on the F keys along top of keyboard. Hold down the Fn key (bottom left of keyboard) and the corresponding F keyHow do I add a signature?0 -
Thanks, the icon is there but doesn't work.
Oddly enough I've just tried the f keys and the ones which should control the volume perform other functions! (F12 hides the toolbar?)
