Morning
My hd panasonic camcorder records movies as avhcd files and i'm having trouble burning them to DVDs. Does anyone know of any software that will convert these files to something like avi or mpg files? I understand that there will be a loss of quality in conversion, but I need to get them on to a DVD in a format that will play in standard dvd players
many thanks

Did you get any software with it? Quite often when things are recorded on an unusual format (ie not the format you'd usually get) you get software with it, to "download" it/convert it, or just to plain convert it.0

Yep, start off with the CD that came with the camera, or the Panasonic website. AVCHD is a consumer-level format but is implemented annoingly differently by each manufacturer, so you may or may not manage with your DVD software. It is also HD, but DVD's are SD, so at best you lose a load of quality. Just so you know.
If you can't find anything else, try SUPER from eRightSoft (free) which is hugely powerful, if a bit of a bizarre interface.
The good news is that what you are trying to do actually is very complex under the covers, so if you hit problems, it's not necessarily asking a silly question...0 -
thanks very much all good suggestions, shall start off with the panasonic website, hadn't thought of checking there0
