I have a medical condition that i needed to cover which i did as a single policy due to cost .. i also took out a policy that included my wife which was without my pre existing conditions, on reflection having the 2 policys seem to conflict , i realise that i cannot claim from 2 policys and it seems that the insurance companies have you whatever way you go as if for some reason i have to cut short my holiday for my condition if my wife has a different policy from another company she would not be able to cut short her holiday without a large cost as her insurance would not pay out even if i was on it ...so it looks like that i would have to cancel her policy and include her on mine which would cost more and have more excess...what a minefield..any ideas

If your wife would (understandably) wish to cancel or curtail her holiday due to reasons connected to your PEMC then she would need to declare your PEMC to her insurers at the time the policy was taken out.

As far as I can see (it is quite early on a Sunday morning!) you have two options - have your wife declare your PEMC to her insurers which is likely to result in an additional premium or cancel her policy and have a joint policy.

Incapuppy is quite right. However when i worked in the travel industry, we just issued a normal policy for the couple, and then they had to declare the PEMC to the screening company. They then gave a loading onto the policy which was paid directly to the insurance company, but did not affect the basic policy premium.
