Check your stop tap!

Just a reminder to check your water stop tap works as they have a horrible habit of seizing up!

First, work out where it is. It's surprising the number of people who don't know where it is in an emergency and end up with a flooded house when a pipe bursts or whatever.

Turn it off and on a few times to make sure it turns and check it for leaks. You might need to spray it with WD40 to get it to turn. If it leaks or doesn't turn get it fixed. (Now is the time to get repairs done as plumbers are scratching round for work.)

When you are finished turn it fully on then back it off by about 1/4 of a turn. (This will make it easier to free up if it does decide so seize up).

Rest easy, knowing you'll be able to turn the water off quickly in an emergency!
