I have around £300 - £400 to spend, I see two common things, crappy processor more RAM and a bigger hard drive, or a better processor and low RAM and HD

Light GPU-limited gaming? Tosh. For everything else, the Acer should suffice.
Personally I would shop around before going to Currys, but that's your prerogative.
