Urgent help required not sure this is legit!!!

Help, my OH bid and won item from seller in America. When he won item he went straight to payment and paid via papal. Today he received two emails puporting to be from the seller, through ebay (they are in his inbox on my ebay also) The text from both is included below, this was sent via 'Response to question about item'
1st message
Send payment to *******@aol.com sent at 12.55

2nd message
Some how e bay automatically send invioce with wrong paypal account. Cancil first payment and resend to *******@aol.com Thanks

Now we are not about to cancel anything without advice or reply to these messages but it has put us on high alert that something may be amiss as it sounds well dodgy. Seller has 100% positive feedback on 23 auctions. So what do we do? How can we contact ebay is there a phone number. Can we retract bid? Honestly dunno what to do? So help anyone please.

It's not uncommon for sellers to make a mistake about using the correct paypal address.

Ask the seller to re-send an invoice with the correct account shown.

Thanks all have done what you suggested and asked the seller to clarify the position with regards to the email and different address. Also as the payment was unclaimed in paypal have cancelled it to ensure OH does not lose money.

  • Hi, I (as a seller) have actually had this happened to me. I had a really old e-mail address that had not been used by me for ages (4 months) but it used to be my ebay email address. I sold an item on ebay and the payment was sent to my old email address (which i obviously don't have access to any more). This was really strange as my new email address was definately the one registered with ebay. I spoke to ebay about this and they said that a 'glitch' can sometimes occur if a seller uses the relist option on an old product (which i did)

Fortunately, my seller was very trusting and understanding and just sent the payment to my new address (after cancelling the other one)

Obviously, I can't speak for your particular case and I applaud you for being cautious but just thought I would let you know that it has happened to me!
