Really need advice :Newbie

Hello all,
Have posted before, but think i was in wrong place :o !!
Basically i could really do with advice, hope someone can help!
I have had debt problems for quite a few years, defaults ccj's etc..... all my own fault and stupidity.Hasn't helped with only being able to get part-time work, never having enough to pay bills. But in Feb,was lucky to get full-time :j.So i decided to start getting it all sorted, contacted the lenders/debtors,and arranged payments, which i have begun to do.
Problem is..my prev.employer, well the manager, messed up my final pay, leaving me £150.00 short, then my current employer, didn't process my p45,so i was put on emergency tax,and the wrong start date was given to payroll,so another week of wage short..so what did i do...payday loans.
At the end of this month ,i have £370 to pay to wonga, and £600 to swiftsterling.I won't have it,well not the £600.if they take that then i will have to get another and then there goes the road to disaster.
I so want to get my self straight. My debts without the pay day loans are 5 in all, totalling £5,500,but have made comfortable monthly arrangments to all the lenders. What should i do,any advice please :)

Well you seem to have had a quite a run of bad luck recently with your pay being messed up, but congrats on getting the full time job and tackling your debts.

Not sure what advice I can give apart from DO NOT GET ANOTHER PAY DAY LOAN!!! You will never get out of debt by taking on more debt. If you have enough to clear Wonga and be able to survive the rest of the month I would get rid of that and then contact the other one and make an offer of reduced payments.

I'd suggest closing down the account that swiftsterling will try and take the money from and making an offer to them to repay - if the account is open, they will take the money whether you have it or not.

Seconding the plea to not get another payday loan!!

Is it possible that your new employers will pay you something in advance, given that they have messed up? Many employers will do this if you ask.

Thanks guys, thats actually what i was thinking..a bit nervous about dealing with swiftsterling, but think thats my only option !!
it really is frustrating, that this job was going to get me on my feet, but before i can begin, both my employers have been so negligent..i'm sure that they don't really understand ,what may seem like a minor error to them, can be such a big error for us !!
I nearly signed up for a dmp,but thought better of it,do you think i am right not to !!

To be honest i have requested this but my manager says i will have to wait til nxt pay day, which is ok for helping pay back the Wonga loan !!

Well it sounds as though you are running your own form of a DMP having made arrangements with most of your creditors already.

I agree with mildredalien too, change your bank account because these pay day loan companies will take your money regardless. Even if you cancel your card and get a new one they can still take the money if the account is open. This happened to a friend of mine and she was on benefits at the time and they cleaned her out.

OMG...and i was advised by one of the DMP companies to just change my card, report it lost and have a new one sent..what great advice that was,and i was going to be paying for it !!
I do have another acc.i can have my wages paid into, but keep original one open to carry on with my direct debits !!or will they just try and take what they can..not very sure how all this works, please excuse my ignorance :)

Close the account altogether - most payday loan companies have something in their T&Cs which means they can just attempt to directly take money out of it whether you want them to or not as long as the account is active. There are lots of banks that will sort all your DDs out for you if you switch, so shouldn't be too much of a hassle - and it will be worth it! Better safe than sorry (and skint...)

Also, if you do decide to start a DMP, make sure it is with one of the free charities (CCCS or payplan) and not a company that take a cut for profit.

Pay wonga and swift sterling first (hopefully you can clear these if you don't pay the other debts)

Then call each of the other creditors and explain the situation to them. Ask for a one month break (and maybe up future monthly payments by £5 or so if they make a deal of it). Most creditors (not Wonga type places) will give you one month off if they think you will stick to the plan in future.

Ps, if you have sky TV/smoke etc, creditors will take a dim view of you and the fact that you are choosing to spend on luxuries when you should be paying them. They may not allow you to depart from your agreement if this is the case.
