I have been with c+g since1997 on endowment mortgage then in 2002 swapped to a repayment mortgage, also borrowed another £6000 2 years later will i be able to claim anything back?

    Thanks
at which point was the mortgage paid off?
  • I wrote to Alliance & Leicester on 17th July using the template letter. I could not find a fee quoted in my original mortgage paperwork from when I took out the mortgage in March 2003, so I couldn't quote this in the letter, but I knew that when I left them in August 2005 I paid a £295 fee.

About a week later I recieved a letter saying they were looking into it, and today I recieved a cheque for £210.

Easiest £210 I have ever earned!! Thank you!
  • I have just sent off a reclamation to the Bradford and Bingley, has anyone had any experience with claims from them? Thanks
  • Hi,

We re-mortgaged with the same lemder - Norther Rock - Last year.

We switched from a repayment to a Buy to Let as we now rent out our house.

We were charged fees for cancelling the old mortgage (cant remember what they called it off the top of my head) and we also got charged fees for setting up the new buy to let.

My question therefore is can we claim fees back if we switched mortgages with the same lender or must you have moved to a new lender to be eliageable.

Obviously the fees we want a refund on would have to qualify but all I have heard mention is IF YOU MOVED TO A NEW LENDER.

    Help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi all,

I wonder if someone can help me with this.

We took out our C&G mortage in 2002 and at the time the closing administration fee was £50. We then moved in 2004 and added £15,000 as a sub-account and at the time the closing admin fee was £180. We ended our C&G mortgage in March 2007 and got charged a closing admin fee of £225.

Can anyone tell me what I can claim back, if any?

    Many Thanks

    Kel

I have just had a cheque from Abbey for £4:mad:

I took out the mortgage in 1991 and went to a capped rate in 1999, so I accept that I should adhere to the 1999 mortgage terms.

I redeemed the mortgage in 2005 and Abbey reckons I paid £99 (sounds a bit low to me) which suggests that the figure I should have paid is £95. I accept the £95 bit, but have a bit of a job accepting that £99 was all I paid. Problem is, I have destroyed all the correspondence from my solr 2 1/2 years ago. I would have thought the exit fee for 2005 was more like £185.

Could anyone confirm the Abbey exit fee for 2005? I want to take this further but need to be sure of my facts first.
  • Hi Wendy,

You seem to know what your talking about so was helping you or anyone else reading this could help me. I had an interest only mortgage with Derbyshire Home loans and because I repayed the mortgage (needed to move urgently) before its term expired I was charged 5% which totalled £6,191.70! I was told before going ahead but now I am reading all of these forums and wonder how they can justify this charge. I did just call them and they said that is there charge and theres nothing I can do about it. I am a bit confused as to why this charge is different from the other smaller charges i have been reading on this forum that most people seem to of been able to get back??

    Any advice greatfully received!

    Hi Pheobe

You can request a refund for the difference between the original charge quoted in your contract and the actual charge paid, for the Deeds Despatch Fee and Discharge Fee but not the 'help with costs'. Some lenders are treating the deeds despatch as a separate fee but others treat as one, so ask for both and see what they say.

    Good Luck,
    Wendy

Just found this page which has just answered my own question (I redeemed my mortgage on 29 April 2005) so it would appear that I just escaped being stung the excessive amounts in the first place.

Mmmmm, now what should I spend the £4 on?

This sounds like an early repayment charge, which wouldn't be reclaimable.
