NEW Mortgage Exit Fees Discussion

The RBS are straight out refunding anything due (i.e. that you haven't signed for) so you're unlikely to have any joy there. If you could post dates you took the mortgage/further advances/new products and when you redeemed, we'd be able to confirm that for you.Scott0

Could anyone help me with reclaiming exit fees from the Principality?
I took my mortgage with them in April 1997 and left to remortgage in March 2005. When I rang them to ask for details of the exit fee I was told that "any mortgages taken out since 1995 would be liable to come under their rules which allow them to fluctuate what they charge" - according to the guy I spoke to the Department which regulates them has said this is fine.
Is this right or should I push for a form of refund?
thanks
Autumn
As long as the fee increases are reasonable and justified in comparison to cost increases, they are allowed to charge. Principality's view is that the fee they charge, though increased, is still very low and reflects costs.
They must have told the FSA that they intended to do this, many months ago now, and the FSA must have accepted it or Principality would have changed their approach.
Other lenders COULD have taken this approach, but their fee increases were generally bigger than Principality's and arguing the point was harder/impossible for them.0 -
Hi, Does anybody know what The Bank of Ireland mortgage release fees were in 2002. I haven't got my copy of the standard charges from then.0

Hi, I called my old mortgage lender as they charged me £100 discharge fee in Dec 2005, they say because my contract stated this amount and i signed that the fee sticks, is this right? I thought £50 was the reasonable charge, does anyone think its worth pursuing? Thanks Karen0

Probably quite low as they didnt start rising until around 2003.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. After watching martin on GMTV this morning i tried to dig out my paperwork from when i moved my mortgage from the Principality. I've found the original paperwork from when i took out the mortgage but cannot find any mention of a MEAF on it. If i find that they've charged me does that mean i can try and claim it back.
Please forgive me if this has already been answered but i'm in work and haven't had time to read the whole thread yet.
ThanksThankyou to all the posters of competitions :beer:0 -
Just called the Nottingham Building Society up who I had a mortgage with a few years ago. I didn't have any account number nor could I remember whether I paid a fee or not. The lady checked their system based on my surname and brought up the details saying that I had paid £140 and the charge when I took the mortgage out was £100. She told me to write in and claim the £40 and a cheque would be sent to me.
Really easy, now got my husband on the case with his old Barclays mortgage from before we lived together - he reckons could be about £200 overpaid!

Just got off the phone to the principality and because i took my mortgage out after 1995 they said that the £99 I paid has been approved by the FSA!
Bad news for me but she did say that they are looking to reimburse customers who took a mortgage out before 1995 so if that is you pick up the phone.Thankyou to all the posters of competitions :beer:0 -
Hi martin phoned the DERBYSHIRE BANK today to see if i was eligable for any money back. after giving them my old account number and them verifying who i was they then said that i wasnt eligable because i left them 7 years ago and they only repay back as far as 6 years after hearing this i proceeded to ask them how much i paid in fees in 2000 and they said they couldnt tell me for there records only went back 6 years but they still had my old account records. Does it mean im not entitteled to anything or are they just palming me off.0

Hello!
We changed our mortgage a few days ago....re-mortgaged to a better fixed rate, after being tied in for 3 years with the dreaded interest only Kensington Mortgages. Our tie in expired, but we were charged £130 odd quid as a redemption fee? Is this the fee we can attempt to claim back as not sure? Any advice would be great thanks!0
