NEW Mortgage Exit Fees Discussion

@mayb - these two threads are right under each other in the forum. There's really no need to post the same thing in both. Only trying to help - but I'm not going to help by posting the same answer to the same question twice!
@blondie7 - tell us when you took out your mortgage, and whether you've switched or taken a further advance since, and what you've paid on redemption. You can't claim CHAPS fees. The deeds fee forms part of the MEAF and comes into the scope of your claim.
@Obuchrysio - the first two items are part of the MEAF. The third item is not and is outside the scope of any MEAF-related claim. Mortgage Trust's contact details are included in the link I posted in response to mayb's question - see post #162.0 -
MarkyMarkD it is quite possible to lose a thread if you forget to subscribe to it etc. I don't go to the forum to find my threads so do not know which order they appear in. It is also likely that not each thread attracts the same subscribers each time. It is great that you spend so much of your time answering the questions posted here and are obviously a great help to a lot of people.
The same question posed by almond was followed by a similar question from geof1057 and blondie - they would have been able to read your reply to almond if you had posted it. It is likely that some of the same ground will be covered repeatedly but that is the way of things.0 -
almond my lender does not appear on the list shown on the MSE site either and although I know the fees I was charged on redemption I do not know what the original figure quoted was. As I understand things the firm is asked to justify the costs that they charged you for the redemption of the mortgage over and above what they said they would charge you. I think mine was £75.00 and that appears to be about the average at the time I took it out. I was charged £250 for redemption fees.
I don't know that you have to refer to a set amount that they said they would charge you but if you use the template letter on the MSE site and just state something like "that at the time I entered into my contract I believe the fee was in the region of (£75 or whatever you believe it was) by the time I closed the account you charged me in the region of (whatever they charged you)." but perhaps leave out the reclaiming of interest bit. That is what I intend to do anyway so best of luck to both of us.0 -
Hi markymarkd
Switched from abbey to a&l in 2004 I can only find I paid £99 for the deeds handling charge and nothing else to abbey, but I have now switched from a&l in 2006 and I have paid £391.27 off hand cant remember all of what the money was for but I know £295 was the exit fee but I was not told of this and there is nothing written down telling me there would be a fee for leaving, as I asked earlier where should this figure be wrote down.
Thanks0 -
We've just received a £100 cheque from the Alliance and Leicester. We were charged a £295 exit fee but were told it should've been no more than £75/£95. Should I cash the cheque and be happy or should I be trying for more of the difference?
I notice that they changed their fees in 2004 (according to the MSE page). What does this mean to me?0 -
I have sent the 14 day letter to Northern Rock and i have had no reply at all ,not even an ackowledgment.
What do i do now?0 -
Daze did they send you a letter justifying the difference between what they said they would charge you and what they did charge you? I also assume they haven't sent it with a covering letter saying this is in full and final settlement of your claim or anything like that. If they didn't you could try cashing that cheque and asking them for the balance or an explanation as to why you are not getting it.0

It gives you a list of Mortgage providers and the relevant dates and exit fee charges. Worth having a look before going on the phone.
Hope it Helps
Thanks for that FG. This is a great link to find out what you were probably "told" you would be charged if you can't find your original contract. When i took out my Abbey mortgage in 2003 the Abbey charge would have been £99, i was actually charged the full £225. I'll be on the phone to them on Monday for the difference.0 -
We took out our first northern rock mortage over 3 years ago on a fixed rate deal for 2 years with no tie in. Just before the end of the 2 years they wrote to us to to review our mortgage deal and offer us a new one. This review cost us £250.00, we took out a new fixed rate deal over 5 years and this also cost us £695 admin fees. Is a mortgage review fee the same as an exit fee? as we had to pay this to leave our old mortgage with them to take the new deal with them!! Can we claim back the £250?0

Hi Jimmyjames,
Have you spoken to Northern Rock yet?
I am in exactly the same situation!
I have tried to call a few times now and have been unable to get through to anyone.
Which number did you call? And also what did you say?
I'm not sure wether to say I have been overcharged as I don't know if I was?!?
I don't have any original documentation, account numbers, statements or anything!Dream of being mortgage free....
