Anyone help please!!!

I sold an item on ebay, he paid on the 24th April, I posted it second class it was dispatched on the 27th April, the buyer has not yet received the item has put negative feedback on me and has asked for a refund by Tuesday, we have asked the buyer to wait until Tuesday to see if it arrives as some post is really slow I find, the buyer has said No he will not wait he has left the negative feedback and wants a refund. I know the cost of an item should not come into it, but it was a brand new unopened perfume which they got for a total of 5.20 inc postage, I have proof of postage but again this will take time which he will not give me, so can anyone tell me what happens now, shall i just issue a refund straight away, and then what happens when he receives the item, my guess is he keeps it!!! I would not care if the person genuinely gave me time, but he is being pretty nasty about it!!

thanks sam

You are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

There really hasn't been a lot of time from posting and it seems the buyer is impatient.

He has already left you negative feedback so really can do little more than open a case.

As you cannot provide tracking (I am assuming you can't otherwise you would have said) then you will have to refund at some stage.

Asking him to wait may be fruitless as you now won't know if he will own up to having received it or not.

Your call as he has shown his hand.

First class post isn't classified as missing until 15 working days after posting the item. I'd send him a link to the royal mail website and a scan of the proof of postage and simply say, you won't be doing anything until this time is up.
If the item still doesn't turn up after this time, check with the royal mail insurance. Then and only then do you consider refunding.
To be frank, the item is £5 so he's not going to chase you through the courts. The worst he can do is give you negative feedback which he's done. So I'd give him a negative and move on.

You will have to file a claim with royal mail by yourself which will take some time, and you should never make your buyer wait for this to be completed.

I agree that in an ideal world it would be good if the buyer was willing to wait a few more days as it has only been a week since you sent it, however as the buyer seems pretty impatient I would just refund now to avoid them opening an INR case against you and damaging your account even more.

Whilst I have said the buyer is impatient, I wouldn't dream of making them wait that long.

Neither would I send a copy of the pop. That's the sellers responsibility.

No, you are incorrect. The buyer can open a case and will win it. And as far as the statement I have highlighted......it shows you are somewhat Ebay naive.

Some perfumes are not covered by RM - I think it depends on alcohol content...

As starrybee suggests, you can at least avoid an INR (Item not received) claim (which will count against you and leave you unable to reclaim the selling fees) by refunding promptly.

As the item is cheap, if you submit a claim, Royal Mail probably will just refund you without question, but it might take sometime to happen.

Though we all moan about it, I've found Royal Mail reliable and something getting lost is a rare event for me. It does happen, but when a buyer is so very quick to claim non-receipt, I detect a whiff of something fishy... particularly if their 'feedback left for others' shows a trend of claiming refunds for non-receipt... I've seen that a few times!!!

Perfumes and aftershaves: Any perfumes or aftershaves that are non-flammable are permitted. Some flammable perfumes and aftershaves are permitted via our Royal Mail Tracked service – restrictions apply. Please see https://www.royalmail.com/tracked. Those that are flammable are prohibited via all other Royal Mail services.

Op, you will have to show your perfume is non flammable in order to be covered.

The buyer doesn't need to wait this long and nor will he need to go through the courts (unless he paid by cash or BACS).

He only needs to open an item not received and he will be refunded for the item and postage from eBay who will then claim the money off the OP. I think it is 7 days timespan!

If you do this every time an item goes missing and do not refund (because items do go missing) you will not last long on eBay with terrible feedback and eBay will place marks against you for not being able to resolve issues.
