Hi Guys,
Just after your opinion before I write to Swinton and possibly the financial ombudsman to compain about cancelling our car policy, we called to cancel the policy and were told that we need to pay almost the same amount it would cost to keep the policy renning to the end of the 12 months!
1. They are claiming back a late payment fee of £24 which I feel is high and unfair compared to what other companies and banks charge
2. they are charging £24 for not signing the original credit agreement - now as it has not been signed I am not bound as that what it says so do I have to pay all the fees they are charging as it was not signed?????
3. Cashback clawback - now when renewing my policy I had gone to Gocompare and found a cheaper quote so they done their best to match this and they only way they could was by giving £100 cashback after 3 months of payments now they want £43 back of this!
4. Cancellation charge £50! I find this extemely high
So they want £156.74 to cancel the policy and to say on cover would be around the same amount for anothr 3 months!!!
Do you think any compaint would be upheld and worth my while? :undecided
Thanks

£50 is high, but within the acceptable (to the FOS) band. Cashback was based on the full policy, so a pro rata charge is fair, in fact they could claim the full £100 back. I can't comment on the other £24 charges, but there is a good chance as you accepted the insurance, and paid the credit terms, you may well have been deemed to have accepted it without signing. For once in my life I think you wouldn't get far with the FOS, but it's worth phoning Swintons and seeing if they'll wave one of the credit fees out of goodwill.0
