Befriending service

My carer thinks I would benefit from the befriending service, I have agreed for her to put my name forward

Does anybody have any experience of this please? I am concerned that they will not have the training for my disabilities.

thank you

When you say the training, what do you mean? Have you hearing or speech difficulties? Only befrienders are just companions, somebody to talk to or maybe do things like go for a coffee or a museum and such. Obviously they would have attended training courses geared towards people with different disabilities, but will not necessarily have much knowledge about one particular disability.

You need to be aware that in some areas befriending services have waiting lists and you may have to wait sometime before they can match you with a suitable person.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Thank you, your explanation makes it clearer. I was not really sure what a befriender did, now I get it :A
