Liklihood of getting deposit back

Hi all,

In late Jan, I placed a deposit on a baby item from an independent retailer using my credit card. I did not sign anything; the agreement was verbal.

Since then, I've been fobbed off with "we'll get stock soon" on the item but I've decided to source the item elsewhere.

Is it likely that I will be able to recover this deposit (about £150)?

Is it better to refer the item to my credit card company for recovery?

Hope you can help,
Regards,
DNK

Did they explain you would get the item on a certain date. Or call you when it would be available or what?

    Hi,

Yes, the item was promised (verbally) for 21st April then I contacted them regarding delivery just before the 21st and they said it would be "by the end of the month." Obviously, I contacted them again and they said there would be a delivery "within a few weeks."

The last time I contacted them, I was told there would be stock available yesterday and I'd be called about it but this hasn't happened and hasn't happened previously, either - I make all the running when in comes to keeping in contact.

So, no firm delivery dates just "we're waiting for stock."

I want to buy from elsewhere now as there is a real need for the product now and I'd like to understand the situation on the deposit.

    Thanks

well they broke the contract regardless if its verbal. I would try ask them for the deposit back if they fail, call the card company tell them they broke the contract.
