We had Credit Protection Insurance on a Hire Purchase agreement for purchasing a car back in 2004 (this is significant). We have contacted the bank who say the insurance was sold by the car dealer, (a large company), and it was their responsibility to sell it fairly.
We have contacted the Financial Ombudsman who says that the dealer would not need to have been regulated to sell Insurance until 2005, so we are a year too early!
Is it worth a letter to the dealer? Has anyone out there received any money back from car dealers? Obviously the FOS doesn't think we would get anywhere as even if we contact the Insurance underwriters they are not hopeful. Can anyone advise here?

Wrote to dealer who now say that they don't have the records for this as they are only allowed to keep copy records for a period of time. I thought you had to keep them for 6 years? We only finished the HP in 2009, can anyone help please?Do the claim to the dealer and see what they come back with.0 -

Send a Sar request to the dealer, enclose £10 and ask for all info they hold on you, enclose £10 and give them 40 days to respond.

The FOS are correct in what they say though, so you decide if it is worth £10 to get the info and make the claim again and see what the dealer says.0
