Nationwide CC Cancelled for no reason

Actually, I think the real point is that no business has to justify their decisions to customers. How would you feel if a bank insisted on a justification before you closed an account? Or if Tesco had a right to require you to explain why you weren't buying bread from them?
Perhaps there is a commercial justification... perhaps they must made a mistake... perhaps they are not behaving in their own best interests. The point is this is up to them.
OK, this is Nationwide. Perhaps they are meant to be different. In my experience they are not. (Just leads to a more pompous style of marketing.)0 -
Exactly the same happened to me last year. I have an excellent payment record (if a little over-available) but a much higher then average salary. I don't use NW as my main current account but do sweep £1000 a month through it to get the free insurance. I generally only use the NW CC to get the free warranty.
After a couple of letters I received an apologetic phone call and £50 compensation. I'm not sure why they haven't done the same for you.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.
We belong to the Earth0 -
Thanks for all the replies, I'm glad it's spurred such interesting comments.
I do understand the point, I do grasp the ethos of it all and I do know it's up to them. I've read all of what's said and I thank you all for your replies. The mixture of opinions helps me decide on the outcome.
Happy bank holiday :rotfl:0 -
Others beat me to it, but Nationwide say "proud to be different" - in my humble experience they are not (different).
They approved me online for their CC - then wrote saying "no, actually not" ala Barclaycard style..
I said "but I have a salary funded account with you" - "ah yes, you do mr giblet" - "so it's a mistake" - "no, you aint gettin' our credit card"
"Fine, you aint gettin' any more of my money" said I.Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.0 -
I would not change the bank due to card being refused.
Only change when the new bank is offerings are better.0 -
Just received this same letter. Have also had my card since around 2004. Used it exclusively for overseas purchases.
Same circumstances, card expires 10/13, and they aren't renewing it.0 -
Nationwide - as the largest of the few remaining Mutuals - are a disgrace. They behave worse then the banks.0
