Going into a kennel and separation anxiety

Looks like the (pampered:rotfl:) pooch will have to spend 2 nights in a kennel next month.

I've been to see the kennels today and am happy that everything is OK in that respect but am worried as to how the PP will react as he sometimes displays the signs of separation anxiety when we go out.....and has been known to wimper when only one of us goes out

any tips on how to deal with this - apart from don't look back lol!

Ask the kennels if they could take the dog for half a day before he has to go in for 2 days. Might help with settling it.

In fairness the kennels have suggested that we go in the morning so that they can spend abit of time with him ......I'm just concerned about the rest of the stay, given his nature to pine.

Have thought about taking some of his favourite chew toys but would anyone suggest taking something with our scent on it or would that upset him even further?

You could take his bed, but remember he may choose to chew it or pee on it! I always leave mine with a worn teeshirt to sleep with and a couple of their best bones.

One of my dogs is a sensitive little soul and I've found that Zylkene has helped him a lot. It's not a drug and can be bought over the counter but you may want to ask your Vet or Vet Nurse's advice to see if they think it would help your dog.
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D

I found ours was ok with going to the kennels (one has SA but we've worked on it a LOT) because there were always people and noise about. We took their own bedding and some of their toys (nothing squeaky - for obvious reasons) - got knocked down by a tornado of tail wag on our return though!

You (or the kennel staff, I mean) may find that your pooch behaves rather differently when you are not around.
My old boy is a horror with other dogs (unless he knows them well and likes them) he still has tantrums in the street trying to bite through the lead. In kennels he is out with other dogs and never a problem!
    You may be pleasantly surprised

I always send him with a couple of fluffy toys so that he can carry them around as he does at home. Don't send the favourite one 'though- it might not come back or be shredded!!
