Do you get a rest break or 2 in those 12 hour shifts?

Ie a 15 min coffee break/ toilet break x 2. If so then these may be unpaid and account for the other 30 mins?

Just a thought though from reading this, I haven't had a lunch in god knows how long (quick sarnie at the desk if I am lucky). I get my lunch hour deducted, certainly few any colleagues get lunch either - so I was kinda intrguiged to see how many supported this thread. Not being paid for lunch or getting a lunch break even the half hour is the norm for me and most people I know.

So what would happen if you tried to take that time? You don't need me to tell you that it's your time, if your lunch break is unpaid (for the record, I tend to end up doing the same as you, as does most of the team I work with, but we could take the time if we wanted).

I work 12hr shifts and we're contracted to 2x 1/2 breaks a shift. They're in 2 sittings to allow everyone to get cover for their positions. Although only contracted for an hour per 12 hours, there are times when it's so busy we can't get away or have no cover available so when we can go we usually have 2x 45 min breaks. The bosses tend to turn a blind eye as they know how it works.

Missed the activity on this one! Notifications dont seem to be working for me :(

The issue has died a death, I got the redundancy, so have left for someone who's staying to chase up (if they really want to).

To answer some of the questions, we did bring it up over a year ago, but it was inferred by our then manager that the unscrupulous claim could cost our jobs. Nice eh? Should have ignored him at the time.

We also take our breaks in our work environment, so if the phone rings - we still have to answer, radio goes etc we still try to help. In honesty we could go where we want, but the restroom we have is riddled with wasps in the summer, stinks, and freezing cold in the winter - so whilst we've brought that on ourselves, we really should have brought in environmental health! ;)

Place has gone from bad to worse, I was called in by the manager. Said she was angered that I had persued the matter via email, when she had told me not to.

When she told me not to, I assumed she meant to her, and HR - seems she also meant with my colleagues, because she has gone into my works email read & printed the lot. Lovely, should have used Facebook.

Any perks we had are being taken away (in fairness some were arranged by ourselves) but the iron fist is falling down.

Thankfully the redundancy means I can now setup on my own, with no breaks, no holiday or sick pay - but doing what I love for a living, and the worse boss of all - me! :D
